Effect Of Ga3 On In Vivo Seed Germination Of An Economically Important Forest Tree Gmelina Arborea Roxb.
The species lessThan i greaterThan Gmelina arborea lessThan /i greaterThan is an economically important forest tree . The wood of this species is very valuable for making furniture, general carpentry and packages and also used for constructions in place of teak wood. This plant has also medicinal value in Ayurvedic formulations for treating various diseases. In the present investigation, lessThan i greaterThan G.arborea lessThan /i greaterThan seeds were treated with 500 – 3000ppm and 1-4% GA lessThan sub greaterThan 3 lessThan /sub greaterThan by giving different time intervals (12-72hrs). The percentage of seed germination has been found to be enhanced gradually from 500 - 1000ppm and 1-2% GA lessThan sub greaterThan 3 lessThan /sub greaterThan treatment, later gradually decreased from 1000-3000ppm and 2-4% GA lessThan sub greaterThan 3 lessThan /sub greaterThan treatments. Maximum percentage of seed germination (85%) was observed at 1000ppm for 36 hrs GA lessThan sub greaterThan 3 lessThan /sub greaterThan treatment in seeds of lessThan i greaterThan G.arborea lessThan /i greaterThan . The germinated seedlings after GA lessThan sub greaterThan 3 lessThan /sub greaterThan treatment were transfered to research field. This protocol is useful in rapid regeneration and multiplication of the species.
