EVALUATION OF MOSQUITOCIDAL POTENTIAL OF DRYPETES ROXBURGHII (WALL.)GREEN MATURE FRUITS AGAINST IMMATURES OF CULEX QUINQUEFASCIATUS SAY AND ANOPHELES STEPHENSI LISTON
Mosquito larvicidal potential of mature fruits of lessThan i greaterThan Drypetes roxburghii lessThan /i greaterThan was investigated against mosquito lessThan i greaterThan Culex quinquefasciatus lessThan /i greaterThan Say and lessThan i greaterThan Anopheles stephensi lessThan /i greaterThan Liston. In the larvicidal bioassay with crude extract against all four instars 3 lessThan sup greaterThan rd lessThan /sup greaterThan instar larvae of both species was noticed to be more susceptible to death in terms of LC lessThan sub greaterThan 50 lessThan /sub greaterThan and LC lessThan sub greaterThan 90 lessThan /sub greaterThan values. Among the solvent extracts of fruits prepared using six solvents [viz. petroleum ether, benzene, ethyl acetate, chloroform: methanol (1:1 v/v), acetone and absolute alcohol] ethyl acetate extract was most potent solvent extract against 3 lessThan sup greaterThan rd lessThan /sup greaterThan instar of both mosquito species with LC lessThan sub greaterThan 50 lessThan /sub greaterThan and LC lessThan sub greaterThan 90 lessThan /sub greaterThan values 77.03ppm, 205.64 ppm for lessThan i greaterThan Cx. quinquefasciatus lessThan /i greaterThan and 49.535ppm, 108.88ppm for lessThan i greaterThan An. stephensi lessThan /i greaterThan respectively. Qualitative analysis traced the presence of some phytochemicals. Upon test on non-target organisms like lessThan i greaterThan Diplonychus annulatum lessThan /i greaterThan lessThan i greaterThan , lessThan /i greaterThan lessThan i greaterThan Poecilia reticulata lessThan /i greaterThan , larvae of lessThan i greaterThan Toxorhynchites splendens lessThan /i greaterThan both crude and ethyl acetate extract proved relatively nontoxic.
