EVALUATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL OF AEGLE MARMELOS ROOT EXTRACT AGAINST SELECTED MICROORGANISMS
India has rich wealth of medicinally important plants. Plants carry several active ingredients which may be useful as base for next generation drug development. So this study is designed to explore the antimicrobial potential of Aegle marmelos (Bael) root extracts. In this study different mediums (acetone, ethanol, ethanol 70%, methanol, chloroform, petroleum ether and aqueous) were used to prepare the root extracts. Then antimicrobial activity evaluation of different extracts was carried out by well diffusion method, against selected microorganisms (Escherichia coli (MTCC-443), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC-441), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC-4673), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC-3160), Aspergillus brasiliensis (MTCC-1344) and Candida albicans (MTCC-227). Moreover minimum inhibitory concentration of potential extracts was evaluated. The number of extracts showed antimicrobial activity against chosen microorganisms. The results of this study may provide the insight for new drug development research.
