Chocolate brown ht impairs the function of the ovary by Depressing the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-ovarian Servomechanism in albino rat (Funded Work)
Chocolate Brown HT is a chemically synthetic coal tar bis-azo dye used extensively as food color. The aim of the present study was to examine the probable toxic effects of Chocolate Brown HT on the function of ovary in rat. The female adult rats were exposed to Chocolate Brown HT at three different effective dosages (100mg/kg BW/day, 200mg/kg BW/day and 400mg/kg BW/day) for a period of 30 days. In this study, we have observed a significant decrease in the number of estrous cycle occurred during the treatment period in Chocolate Brown HT treated rats in a dose response manner compared to control group of rats. There were a significant decrease in the levels of LH, FSH and estradiol in a dose dependent manner in Chocolate Brown HT treated rats. Besides, Chocolate Brown HT produced a significant increase in the activities of antioxidant enzymes and decrease in the level of malondialdehyde, a biomarker of lipid peroxidation. In conclusion, Chocolate Brown HT impairs the function of the ovary probably by depressing the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-ovarian servomechanism.
