Risk factors of osteoporosisin type ii diabetic population In vidarbha, maharashtra
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases which if not controlled can cause life threatening complications. Our objectives were to evaluate Fasting (FBG) andPost meal blood sugar (PMBS), Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), Vitamin D, Calcium and Magnesium levels in the type II diabetics.Study design was case control study. Total sample size was 60, 30 study group with known history of type II DM and 30 age, sex matched healthy controls included in the study.Mean value for Magnesium, Calcium and Vitamin D level in the study group were 1.06 ± 0.25, 7.91 ± 0.76, 15.56 ± 2.01respectively, which were significantly lower in the cases as compared to the controls (p lessThan 0.0001). HbA1c has negative correlation with Magnesium and Vitamin D.Early detection of serum Magnesium, Calcium and Vitamin D level abnormalities can minimize the risk for development of osteoporosis in the type II diabetics.
