<title>Screening For Antimicrobial Properties Of Vitex Negundo. L From Rural Areas Of Warangal Dist. A.P. India</title>
Antimicrobial properties of different parts of lessThan i greaterThan Vitex negundo lessThan /i greaterThan were evaluated on bacterial strains viz, lessThan i greaterThan Bacillus cereus lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 11778 lessThan i greaterThan , Bacillus subtilis lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 6633, lessThan i greaterThan Staphylococcus epidermidis lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 12228, lessThan i greaterThan Enterobacter aerogenes lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 13046, lessThan i greaterThan Escherichia coli lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 25922, lessThan i greaterThan Klebsiella Pneumoniae lessThan /i greaterThan NCIM 2719, lessThan i greaterThan Proteus vulgaris lessThan /i greaterThan NCTC 8313, lessThan i greaterThan Pseudomonas aeruginosa lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 27853, lessThan i greaterThan Psuedomonas putida lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 12842, lessThan i greaterThan Salmonella typhimurium lessThan /i greaterThan ATCC 23564. The solvents used for extraction of plant parts were hexane, chloroform and methanol. In vitro antibacterial activity was tested by agar diffusion method. The most susceptible gram positive bacteria was lessThan i greaterThan Bacillus cereus lessThan /i greaterThan , while the most susceptible gram negative bacteria were lessThan i greaterThan Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida. lessThan /i greaterThan The extracts of root and bark have shown moderate antimicrobial activity when compared with flower and leaves. Among these bacteria lessThan i greaterThan Proteus vulgaris lessThan /i greaterThan is resistant against all extracts of leaves and flowers. Intermediate activity was observed with bark and root extracts. The significance of antibacterial activity of active extracts was compared with standard antimicrobics; streptomycin 2mg/cup.The results obtained in the present study suggest that lessThan i greaterThan Vitex negundo lessThan /i greaterThan can be used in treating diseases caused by test organisms.
