<title>ANTI-ULCER EFFECT OF AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF GYNURA CUSIMBA (D.DON)MOORE. ON ASPIRIN PLUS PLYORUS LIGATION MODEL IN ALBINO RATS. </title>
Gynura cusimba (D.Don) Moore. (Family Compositae) is traditionally used in Manipur in various situations: controlling bleeding from cuts, wound healing, headache, gastric ulcer, inflammation and relief from headache. The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-ulcer activity of Gynura cusimba in suitable experimental animal models. Animals were divided into 5 groups of 6 animals each- Group I (Control-2% gum acacia in distilled water), Group II (Standard -Omeprazole 2mg/kg bodyweight), Group III (Test drug - 500mg/kg bodyweight), Group IV (Test drug - 1000mg/kg bodyweight) and Group V (Test drug - 2000 mg/kg bodyweight). All the above drugs were given orally for 5 days before pylorus ligation and anti ulcer activity was evaluated by four parameters i.e. ulcer index, pepsin activity, free and total acidity, and gastric barrier mucous secretion. The test drug showed significant anti ulcer activity when compared with the control, justifying its use in folklore medicine.
