<title>SCREENING OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF SOLANUM MELONGENA SEED EXTRACTS ON SELECTED HUMAN PATHOGENIC BACTERIA </title>
Antimicrobial efficiency of lessThan i greaterThan Solanum melongena lessThan /i greaterThan seed extracts was examined using methanol, chloroform, acetone and petroleum ether, as solvents and tested against four human pathogenic bacteria such as lessThan i greaterThan Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Proteus vulgaris lessThan /i greaterThan using Agar Well Diffusion Method. The phytochemical analysis of lessThan i greaterThan Solanum melongena lessThan /i greaterThan seed was also made. The methanolic and acetone extract of lessThan i greaterThan Solanum melongena lessThan /i greaterThan seed showed maximum inhibition against lessThan i greaterThan Staphylococcus aureus lessThan /i greaterThan at all concentrations (75, 150 and 250 ug/ml) significant inhibition was proved at the higher concentration of petroleum ether extract while no inhibition was shown in the chloroform extract of Solanum lessThan i greaterThan melongena lessThan /i greaterThan seed at any level of concentration against lessThan i greaterThan Staphylococcus aureus lessThan /i greaterThan . The methanol extract of the lessThan i greaterThan Solonum melongena lessThan /i greaterThan extract showed enormous inhibitory activity at all concentrations against lessThan i greaterThan Escherichia coli lessThan /i greaterThan while the acetone and petroleum ether extracts of the same plant seed showed significant activity only at the higher concentration against lessThan i greaterThan Escherichia coli lessThan /i greaterThan . The result of phytochemical analysis shows the presensce of reducing sugar, steroid, terpenoid and flavonoid in the seed extract of lessThan i greaterThan Solanum melongena. lessThan /i greaterThan
