<title>ANTIMICROBIAL SCREENING OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT FROM VARIOUS PARTS OF CEROPEGIA BULBOSA AND CEROPEGIA ATTENUATA </title>
Ethnomedicine provides avenues for identification of compounds with antimicrobial properties and potential new antibiotics. The present studies focus on the antimicrobial activities of the crude methanolic extract of lessThan i greaterThan Ceropegia spp lessThan /i greaterThan collected from Jaipur and Ajmer region of Rajasthan (India). Methanolic extracts of lessThan i greaterThan Ceropegia bulbosa lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Ceropegia attenuata lessThan /i greaterThan were tested against four common bacteria and two fungus as lessThan i greaterThan Proteus vulgaris lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC 1771), lessThan i greaterThan Staphylococcus aureus lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC 7443 lessThan i greaterThan ), Bacillus subtilis ( lessThan /i greaterThan MTCC 121), lessThan i greaterThan Fusarium solani lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC 9667), lessThan i greaterThan Trichophyton rubrus lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC 3272), lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus niger lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC 3376) of medical importance using a quantitative agar well diffusion test and tube dilution assay. All plant extracts showed antimicrobial activities against the selected microorganisms; the methanol extracts in callus and tuber were most effective. The effectiveness against bacteria is more than fungus. These results support the ethnomedicinal claim that lessThan i greaterThan Ceropegia spp lessThan /i greaterThan is an effective treatment for microbes.
