STUDIES ON IN VITRO EVALUATION OF ANTFUNGALACTIVITIES OF STERCULIA FOETIDA L. BARK
The present investigation was attempted in order to evaluate the antifungal potential of successively extracted n-hexane and methanolic extracts of lessThan i greaterThan Sterculia foetida lessThan /i greaterThan L. bark. The fungi-toxic efficacy of the extracts was tested against both yeast like fungi [ lessThan i greaterThan Candida albicans lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC-3017), lessThan i greaterThan Candida krusei lessThan /i greaterThan , lessThan i greaterThan Candida tropicalis lessThan /i greaterThan , lessThan i greaterThan Cryptococcus marinus lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC-1029)] as well as mycelial like fungi such as lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus niger lessThan /i greaterThan (MTCC-9933) and lessThan i greaterThan Rhizopus oryzae lessThan /i greaterThan employing well diffusion and poison food method respectively. The study revealed that n-hexane extract in high inhibition against lessThan i greaterThan Candida krusei lessThan /i greaterThan , whereas lessThan i greaterThan Candida albicans lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Candida tropicalis lessThan /i greaterThan showed no response and lessThan i greaterThan Cryptococcus marinus lessThan /i greaterThan responded moderately. The methanolic extract showed high inhibition against lessThan i greaterThan Candida krusei lessThan /i greaterThan , whereas lessThan i greaterThan Candida albicans lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Candida tropicalis lessThan /i greaterThan showed no response and moderate effect against lessThan i greaterThan Cryptococcus marinus lessThan /i greaterThan . The n-hexane and methanolic extracts of this plant showed better zone of inhibition against lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus niger lessThan /i greaterThan than lessThan i greaterThan Rhizopus oryzae lessThan /i greaterThan . Fluconazole and Clotrimazole were taken as reference antifungal.
