<title>A PILOT STUDY TO COMPARE SURFACE RADIATION DOSE TO THE GONADS BY RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION OF THE LUMBAR SPINE USING COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY AND DIRECT DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY</title>
<abstract>Gonads are radiosensitive organs and the biological damage produced by radiation is closely related to the amount of energy absorbed. The aim of the study was to compare the surface radiation dose received by the gonads during the radiographic examination of L.S Spine in Computed radiography and direct digital radiography and to evaluate dose differences according to gender. The study was performed for 21 subjects covering both CR and DR units where the dose was measured by using a mult-o-meter. The study showed that the mean surface radiation dose was found to be ~63 % less in DR for lumbar spine AP and ~70 % less for lumbar spine lateral. There was also a statistically significant differences based on gender in an AP radiograph.</abstract>
